Day 13 At Sea toward Peru

Today is February 14, Valentines Day.  We celebrated by dining in the special restaurant on board.  The food was excellent.

We have been keeping up on world affairs through CNN and Fox News.  Between the two we can get a good idea of what is happening.  We heard that the Egyptian government fell with the resignation of Hosni Mubarak, which will have far ranging implications within that region of the world and will spill out to affect our economy.

We have met so many Canadians on board we wonder if there are any left in their home country.   Maybe it is just happenstance but we have also met a fair number of Englishmen.

The sea has cooperated nicely with smooth sailing so far.  We were advised by the Captain this evening that today a ship of our type was to have visited the port we are aiming for tomorrow but was unable to dock due sizeable swells.  So there is some uncertainty about our stop tomorrow.

I have finished three books and have started on a fourth.  This is a necessary pastime if one is to keep ones sanity.  Sea days for me can be long and uneventful.  Once we reach Lima, Peru I will be off the ship for two nights as I visit the Inca ruins at Machu Picchu.  We are warned to be very careful in Peru.  Leave your jewelry on board and don’t walk just off the ship.  With so many old folks on board it will be interesting to see how many journey to visit the Inca ruins and how they are able to deal with the altitude.

  1. Happy Valentine's Day you two. Another sea day, Mom must be thrilled. Dad - what have you been reading? 3 books down already, your Kindle must be getting tired.
