Our day in Nicaragua was a pleasant one. As we pulled into port we could see an active volcano in the distance. The land here is very flat but rises abruptly to form the ridge of mountains containing the volcano.
We walked through the streets of this little port village and were able to see some of the local color. The children were amazingly friendly and they kept waving to us as we walked by. They also had learned enough English to say “can I have a dollar?” We went thru town and reached the beach which had been described as “primitive". Who ever told us that was not wrong.
I do think we were able to get some good pictures of the town and its people. As we walked out of the port area we were offered rides in these bicycle powered taxis. I have included some pictures of these vehicles. We walked by a fish shack where they were unloading some very pretty golden colored fish. Picture included. Unfortunately, I can’t send along a sample of the aroma emanating from the building.
I keep expecting to see Ollie North selling guns on the street in one of these little villages. Nicaragua is a very poor country. Chris was told it is only second to Haiti in poverty. While we saw no signs of a prospering economy the streets were clean and the people friendly. They have not yet developed the standard cruise ship greeting of having tables of locally made handicrafts shoved in your face.
